Your Words Shape Your World

Let me tell you something important — not just about hitting, but about life.
When an athlete says, “I’m not that smart,” I hear something deeper. I hear a young person who might not yet realize how powerful their words are — especially the ones they say to themselves.
You see, how you talk to yourself becomes how you see yourself. And how you see yourself shapes what you believe is possible. That belief is the starting point of everything: your training, your performance, your confidence, your dreams.
You are an athlete, yes — but more than that, you are a thinker, a decision-maker, a warrior, and a creator. And every creator must first believe in the value of their creation. That starts with how you carry yourself.
Here’s what I need you to understand:
Your thoughts are not facts — they are choices.
You can choose to say, “I’m learning,” instead of “I’m not smart.”
You can say, “I’m figuring it out,” instead of “I can’t.”
Growth doesn’t come from knowing everything — it comes from being willing to learn.
Confidence is not born — it’s built.
Every rep you take in the cage, every moment you breathe through frustration, every time you choose belief over doubt — you are building a foundation.
Confidence isn’t about never failing — it’s about trusting yourself through failure.
Posture isn’t just physical — it’s mental.
How you walk into a room, step into the box, or approach a challenge tells the world something. But more importantly, it tells you something.
Walk tall. Shoulders back. Chin up. Even when you don’t feel confident — especially then — act like someone who believes she belongs. Eventually, your brain will catch up.
You are allowed to dream big — but you must train your mind to match the size of those dreams.
You can’t play small in your thoughts and expect to live big in your life.
You want to make a difference in the world? It starts by not tearing yourself down when you make a mistake.
It starts by owning your voice, your worth, and your future.
Sport is just one of the arenas where you’ll fight these battles. But the lessons you learn here — the self-belief, the resilience, the refusal to quit on yourself — will echo into every part of your life.
Whether you’re in the classroom, in a career, or leading others someday, the athlete who learns to speak powerfully to herself becomes the person who changes the world.
You are enough.
You are becoming.
And you have something this world needs.
But the first person who needs to believe that — is you.
And I do believe in you.
Let’s train that voice inside your head to be your greatest ally.
With belief,
Coach Martin
